Carp aquaculture in Poland is based on continuity. Many farms have been operating for decades, and the knowledge of managing ponds, catching fish, and organizing sales is passed down from generation to generation. This is an immense value – an experience that cannot be replaced by theory.

At the same time, the market is changing faster than ever before. Direct sales today require not only knowledge of production but also organizational, marketing, and communication skills. Regulations, customer expectations, and distribution models are evolving. Therefore, the new generation of breeders must combine traditional knowledge with a modern approach to the market.

What can we do?

This is exactly why the education of youth in fishing schools and their participation in industry and international events play such an important role. Contact with experts, the ability to compare different market organization models, or observing direct sales in practice builds awareness that aquaculture is not only fish production but also responsible management of the entire supply chain.

The future of the sector depends on whether young people will see a real perspective for growth in it. Market stability, modern sales forms, and professionalization of direct sales points are elements that increase the attractiveness of the industry. This is a signal that aquaculture is not a relic of the past but a dynamically developing part of the national food economy.

The new generation does not have to start from scratch. They have the achievements of their predecessors, established standards, and growing experience in organizing short supply chains at their disposal. Their task will be not only to maintain this direction but to develop it – adapting direct sales to the next market challenges.

Who will take over? The answer is already taking shape – in school workshops, field practices, and family farms. It is precisely there that the future of Polish aquaculture is being created, and we want to support this direction with our actions.
